What Period In Time Is Lemony Snicket Set In?
The book Lemony Snicket is set in some time period I can't identify. They wear old fashioned clothes in the pictures. There is a computer in one of the stories and elevators towerblocks and strange places with different rules and customs. The film has an old fashioned car with a tape reel and the banker Mr Poe says they can fax him if they need him. There are electric lights and trains as well as fridges and cookers yet they also wear old style clothes except for Klaus who wears shirt, jumper and cords. The things they do are confusing. The car had a phone in it and Mr Poe called them on it. In one of the books there is a submarine with a fax machine inside it for recieving Volunteer Factual Dispaches.
The Hotel Denumaunt has electricity, elevators and a suauna and Indian restaraunt.

My own personal opinion is that it's kind of Lemony Snicket's own time period. He made it up. The look of the books and the illustrations, and the ambiance of the details and the way in which he writes, to me, feel like post industrial era England. Maybe 1800's or early 1900's. I can see where the confusion can set in, especially with the inconsistancies in mentioning computers, faxes, and all that jazzy new technology stuff. I just think it's his sort of whim. Kind of like...an old, dreary ambiance with the perks of modern time. It never really specifies what the time period is. He leaves it up to the reader. =) And that's the fun of his novels. =D

Badge reels are a popular way to display ID cards, badges, and proximity cards.
