Ethernet Cable - The Optimal Connection
A standard protocol for connecting computers in a local area network (LAN) is most commonly known as Ethernet. When buying an Ethernet cable there are two fundamental types that are available: cable assemblies and bulk cables. Cable assemblies are wires banded into a single unit with connectors on one end. Bulk cables are sold in reels or by the foot. All Ethernet cabling is a combination of twisted high signal cable. With the use of Ethernet basic networking and internet functions can be maximized to their highest potential.
There are various specifications for Ethernet cables which include: Ethernet type, end-use, cable construction, rated temperature and features/standards. Specific Ethernet have special conductors designed especially for that type. The conductors include: 10Based-T, 1000Based-T, 100Based-TX and 100Base-FX. When using cables that are in the stranded form, there is more flexibility and it can hold up being bent without breaking. On the other hand, the solid conductor form is less expensive yet it has less manoeuvring ability. These cables can be designed for extreme environments with UV ratings or for basic in house use as well as being designed with a shield and plenum-rated. Ethernet cable assembly is designed for video, networking, audio, computer, camera/imaging, telecommunications and many other applications.
An important thing to consider when specifying an Ethernet cable is the cable type. When deciding which cable to purchase, it is imperative to pick cables that meet and even exceed specification standards. Cat3, Cat5, Cat5E, and Cat6 are all cables that are available. As well as, RG6 cables used in cable television and fibre optic cables used to eliminate noise. Another important quality in cables is making sure that the bending radius is optimal. When running a network cable throughout a business or home and through walls, there must be confidence that when moving and bending, the cable will maintain its integrity.
Ethernet cable carries construction specifications for the connector type, gender and length. The connector types are endless with a few examples being internal 50-pin, Telco 50, and USB type B. The gender of the cable can be one of three which include female-female, male-male, and male-female. As for the length, the only specification is as to the units which are metric and/or English. Certification and approvals of cable can vary by the location that it is sold in. Overall, when utilizing cable for the many applications available, one can be confident that a type is available for all networking and audio/visual needs.
